Peace wishes from South Africa

In South Africa we have eleven (yes, eleven) official languages!

Here is a Peace Day message for all our friends in three of the languages most commonly spoken in our province, the Western Cape:

These lovely posters were created by our talented Art teacher, Monni Crous. See our Creative Arts blog, where she shares many of her stunning lessons!

Better Late Than Never!

We were so excited to finally receive our parcel of peace cranes from Russia! Included in the envelope were some gifts as well as a drawing for each one of the students in our Grade 6 Eagles class, drawn by the students from the Smolenskaya School №1 in Altai krai, Russia. They were very special and so beautifully drawn and painted. More photos to follow.

Peace Cranes and Gifts from Hawaii

It has been a busy two weeks, so I have not had a chance to update the blog, but about 10 days ago we received a parcel from Hawaii. This is what was inside it:

HawaiiSo colourful! Very fitting for Hawaiian cranes. Thank you Ms Kurashige and students at the Mid-Pacific Institute – we love your cranes!

We are still eagerly awaiting a parcel from Siberia… we do hope they arrive soon.

Special Cranes and Special Poetry

We were spoilt in Cape Town last week. Two parcels in two days!

This time the peace cranes were received from The Phoenix School in Salem, Massachusetts.  Along with the cranes we also received a lovely letter and a beautiful poem written by the Phoenix School students. I would like to share it with you:

Peace

We should love peace
Peace is about caring
Peace is love

Peace is
Love, hope and friends
Holding hands
Peace holds us together

Peace is about our friends and families
And the ones watching from above
Grab a friend, a sister or brother
To care for each other and dance.
Peace helps people everywhere
Peace can change people’s heart so they can become good
Peace is what makes community
Someday we’ll live in friendship

Peace is wonderful and keeps the Earth healthy
As Peace wakes up to shine in the world
Harmony envelopes the fragile Earth.

A world without peace could not be good
Peace is a little of everyone
We should have peace everywhere

Peace is what holds us together
Peace is
Life
Hope
Quiet
Peace kills bad
Peace helps war dissolve
Peace is you
Peace is me
Peace is us
Peace is why we’re here
Peace is what holds the Earth together

Now, please explain this to me – if the children of the world understand peace, how is it that we adults get it so wrong?

Peace messages from Pennsylvania to Cape Town

Last week Thursday a parcel arrived for us from Pennsylvania in the USA! Inside were beautiful peace cranes, a letter from the teachers and students at St Ignatius, some Halloween stickers and a postcard from Pennsylvania.

The letter was very special and in it were some messages of Peace the school wanted to share with us. I’s like to share them with you. I’m sure you will find them as special as we did!

Make peace in our world.

May peace be with you.

May peace begin in your heart.

Let peace be in your neighbours.

Peace be everywhere.

Peace in your classroom.

May the peace of Jesus spread in your school.

Let peace surround us all.

Let peace blossom where you live.

Peace Cranes Arrive in WA from South Africa!

Today is our first day back to school for our last term of the year and in my pigeon hole was this envelope.I was so excited to see it . These are the first cranes our school has received as sadly the cranes from our exchange school in Siberia were lost in the mail.
Thank you to the children from Elkanah who created these. The children are back to school tomorrow and they will be so exited to see them and I’m sure they will say how beautiful and creative they are.
I will post some more photos soon.
